Maksim Chmerkovskiy joins roster of departed 'Dancing With the Stars' pros

Maksim Chmerkovskiy isn't returning to "Dancing With the Stars" this season.
Rumors have been swirling around Maks for a while -- is he quitting? Was he fired? What's going on? Chmerkovskiy released a statement this morning confirming that, regardless of how he's leaving, it's definitely happening:
I just want to set the record straight to all of my amazing fans that I will unfortunately not be returning for this season of "Dancing With the Stars." I’ve been a pro dancer on the show for about seven years now and am eager to explore other opportunities that have been made possible because of the show. I'm going to take this time to dive into producing and acting, while fulfilling my sponsorship obligations.
A big thank you to all of my fans for your never-ending support. I also want to thank the entire cast and production of "Dancing With the Stars."
[Related: 'DWTS' Season 16 cast list announced!]
The statement itself is boilerplate, and doesn't really tell us whether he's got acting gigs lined up, or whether the judges (and/or fellow pro and show nemesis Derek Hough) just got sick of him sassing them. Certainly the Hope Solo fracas isn't mentioned. Also, Chmerkovskiy is still technically under contract with the show.

But other "DWTS" pros have moved on from the show to significant success, with Julianne Hough at the head of the pack. Hough has starred in films like "Footloose" and "Rock of Ages," released a charting country single in 2007, and is in "Safe Haven" opposite Josh Duhamel, in theaters now. (It was announced just today that Julianne and brother Derek have a ballroom-dancing drama in the works at Starz.)
Lacey Schwimmer has appeared as a featured singer on singles since her last "DWTS" appearance in 2012, and released her own single in 2011. While Alec Mazo is less visible, he won the first "DWTS" season with partner Kelly Monaco, then went to Stanford Business School to get his MBA, and now runs a production company. Dmitry Chaplin, last seen competing in Season 12, has returned to the show as a choreographer, and was nominated for an Emmy for his efforts.
[Related: Yahoo! TV's Q&A with 'DWTS' host Tom Bergeron]
So while all the pros might not scale Hough heights, there's life after the show -- good news for other pros who didn't make the cut for Season 16. A show rep shrugged that it's not uncommon to "rotate" the pros so they can "rest for a cycle" -- so we'll see if familiar DWTS faces like Peta Murgatroyd (second best name in TV, behind Benedict Cumberbatch), Anna Trebunskaya (two 11th-place finishes running), and Louis van Amstel return for future seasons. (Chelsie Hightower, who finished 10th last season, likely won't return.)
Taking their places: Latin ballroom specialist Lindsay Arnold, a Provo, Utah native and "So You Think You Can Dance" vet; Australian Sharna Burgess, promoted from the "DWTS" troupe and a performer at the Olympics in Sydney; and Gleb Savchenko, a multi-discipline star (he trained in karate as a kid) who's appeared on Australian "DWTS."
Are you bummed that Maks is leaving? Psyched for new pro blood on the show? Wondering what the aitch Andy Dick is doing on the show? Work it out in the comments!

"Dancing With the Stars" airs its two-hour season premiere March 18 on ABC.

Kendra Wilkinson Baskett on 'Celebrity Wife Swap' premiere: 'I lost it'

ET Online/Jackie Willis - Kate Gosselin & Kendra Wilkinson To Life Swap

Kendra Wilkinson Baskett couldn't wait to do "Celebrity Wife Swap." Then she found out who she was swapping with: Kate Gosselin, single mom to eight kids.
Kendra, who's appeared in "Playboy" and on "The Girls Next Door," is married to former NFL-er Hank Baskett and lives with him, their four-year-old son Hank IV, and a fulltime housekeeper and nanny, Rosa. Hank is very involved around the house and likes to cook for Kendra and set up her girls' nights.

[Related: Shannon Elizabeth's "What Not To Wear" make-under]

When we spoke to Kendra, she sounded positive about the experience, saying she "got so excited" about going on the show, because "I love the feeling of stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something off. I think that's the way to live your life, is to be thrown off a little bit." She was into the idea of living "in someone else's life" for a week; she's "all about the social experiments."

But as experiments go, a week with eight children is practically the Manhattan Project, and when Kendra found out whose house she was headed to, she "lost it. I wanted to run out."

She wasn't the only one, evidently; Kendra reported that "there was some tension and drama" between Kate Gosselin and Hank. She didn't want to speak for them, because she wasn't there, but it sounds like Kate doesn't entirely approve of the Basketts' laid-back lifestyle, or what Kendra describes as her "Southern California" attitude. (Or, we're guessing, of Kendra herself, who laughed that Kate didn't get "why a woman like me deserves a man like that.") We'll have to find out whether Kate passed any judgments, but we know Hank didn't sell Kendra out. "All I know is, my husband said, 'I stuck up for you.'"

Meanwhile, back at the Gosselins', Kendra was determined to make a good impression. Calling that time a "whirlwind," she told us her goal for the week: "I truly, truly wanted those eight kids to really respect me." Not to think of Kendra as a second mom, necessarily, but it took "a lot of work" to get the kids to trust her.

[Related: "Survivor: South Pacific" couple puts a ring on it]

She's a fighter, though, she says, and she kept at it. She wanted the experience to be good for everyone, and she wanted "these kids to know me, and to know my heart" -- not least because of the trash-talk they might have heard about her posing nude, "'she's stupid,' you know, all that bad stuff that's about me."

Watch a preview here:

All this emotional stuff -- while trying to adhere to Kate's militarily-precise routine for her children. "Every minute on the dot is something that they have to do," Kendra told us. "I was just thrown into the deep end ... like, 'Here, go cook for eight kids, now! Go, go!' I'm like, 'What? What? What do I do, where do I start?'" But she learned a lot, and she says we'll "like the outcome."

But Kendra doesn't sound quite as psyched about "Splash," the celebrity-diving competition she's in on ABC (it premieres next month). That's "literally being thrown in the deep end," she chuckled, but she'd never gone off a diving board before -- and not until she climbed up on the dive platform did Kendra realize she was afraid of heights. Describing filming as "a difficult journey" for her, she jokingly advised viewers, "Do not put your money on me."

World's Worst Tattoo is Fixed

Left: The original tattoo. Right: The final result.
The man with the "world's worst portrait tattoo" finally got his happy ending on Thursday when he had the opportunity to fix the botched ink job of his late wife that had plagued him for so many years.

More on Yahoo! The Worst Tattoos in Hollywood

In 2007, on the one-year anniversary of his wife Mindy's death, Chad Stahl, 38, owner of Cutright Lawn and Landscaping, LLC, visited On the Edge Tattoo Studio in Bowling Green, Ohio to honor her with a portrait tattoo. The couple had been dating for 10 years, had 3 children, and were married for less than 3 months when Mindy died in a household fire.

More on Yahoo! Shine: Kate Moss and her $1.6 Million Tattoo

Tattoo artist Dennis Foust inked the $450 portrait tattoo. "I had seen Faust's portrait work on his website and he even tattooed some of my in-laws with designs in honor of Mindy so I was confident going in," Stahl told Yahoo! Shine in his first media interview. "But when the swelling subsided, it didn't look like Mindy at all—her teeth looked evil." To add insult to injury, a friend had emailed him a link to a blog post titled "Worst Tattoo Ever" with a photo of Stahl's tattoo posted by a disgruntled On the Edge ex-employee. A few months later, Stahl returned to the studio and Faust tried to fix it, adding the words, "In loving memory of Mindy" but the damage was too great. "I was embarrassed to wear sleeveless shirts and didn't want anyone to see the tattoo but everyone in my town knew about it," says Stahl.

Foust told Shine: "This was my very first portrait tattoo done years ago. I've since moved forward, improved my skills, and my work has been featured in magazines."

Recently, a friend of Stahl's recommended that he visit Scott Versago at Empire Ink in Akron, Ohio, who had heard of the infamous tattoo and on Thursday Versago fixed it—for free. Vergaso wrote on his Facebook page: "I got to tackle the official '#1 worst portrait tattoo in the world' today. I'm sure you've all seen it a million times online, as had I. I couldn't believe my eyes when this guy walked in and showed me this project. I think my jaw literally hit the floor. He went on to tell me the story behind the portrait; He had just married his beautiful wife and not even three months afterwards she was killed in a horrible house fire accident leaving him to raise their three children alone. Shortly after he went to a local tattoo studio to memorialize his wife and was left with this abomination. He later returned to that studio for one more session, thinking that perhaps 'he had done something wrong in the healing of the tattoo' and they butchered it even more the second time. Finally, he drove all the way to my studio, Empire Ink, just to meet me and to see what his options were. Touched by his story, I gifted the entire project to him for free. Now he has closure and I have an amazing story to add to my portfolio!"

The fix-it job took just three hours. "I'm so happy and want everyone to see it," Stahl told Shine. "I'm going to enter the tattoo in a contest hosted by On the Edge to see if they recognize me.

Pink stripe on NC illegal immigrant licenses eyed

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) A new North Carolina driver's license set to be issued to some illegal immigrants has a bright pink stripe and the bold words NO LAWFUL STATUS raising concerns about whether the design will brand those who show it.The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles announced last week they would begin issuing the licenses March 25 following a lengthy legal review. The Obama administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program grants valid federal work permits to qualified applicants brought to the U.S. as children without legal authorization. Some Republican lawmakers in the state have balked at the idea, filing a bill Thursday to bar the DMV from granting the licenses until at least June.Cinthia Marroquin a 22-year-old Raleigh resident awaiting approval for a DACA permit, said the longer the license issue is delayed the longer it will take for her to get a job and drive herself to work.Even if
she is able to get one she is worried about presenting a license declaring she has NO LAWFUL STATUS at a police roadblock or while writing a check at the grocery store.
A lot of us are just scared said Marroquin who came to the U.S. from Mexico when she was 15.We just want to be able to get a job and drive to work. Having that license is just going to show everybody you're here illegally just buying a beer or writing a check. You don't know how people might react.
The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina also takes issue with the designation.
North Carolina should not be making it harder for aspiring citizens to integrate and contribute to our communities by branding them with a second-class driver's license said ACLU attorney Raul Pinto. There is simply no reason for officials to stigmatize people who are in the U.S. legally with an unnecessary marker that could lead to harassment confusion and racial profiling.Almost from the moment President Barack Obama announced the program in June states across the country grappled with how and whether to issue driver's licenses to those granted legal presence. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has said it is up to officials in each state to make their own determination about what to do.Many states, such as Oregon and Georgia, have announced that they will grant driving privileges to those eligible. In Arizona, where Republican Gov. Jan Brewer has pledged that DACA youths will not get driver's licenses, the state's DMV still lists federal work permits among the documents making people eligible for one.The issue is especially politically charged in North Carolina, where current state law ordains a driver's license will be issued to anyone who holds valid federal documentation of their legal presence in the United States. The office of the state's Democratic attorney general in an opinion last month said that under federal law DACA participants have a legal presence even if they do not have lawful status. Therefore state law requires that DACA participants be granted licenses. Republican Gov. Pat McCrory's administration agreed announcing last week the DMV would begin issuing the licenses. That has upset many conservatives in McCrory's own party including Rep. Mark Brody (R-Union).He is one of four freshmen legislators who introduced a bill Thursday to bar DMV from issuing licenses to DACA participants before June 15, potentially giving time to craft a permanent change to state law.Brody said he believes strongly that the DACA program violated the U.S. Constitution because it was implemented without congressional approval. Obama said last year he was forced to take executive action by the decades-long failure of Congress to consider meaningful immigration reform.
We need a time out said Brody a construction contractor. We don't need to have the federal government dictating to us how we are supposed to issue licenses in this state. We do it and that's a privilege we have under our Constitution.Among the concerns raised by Brody and other bill sponsors is that illegal immigrants might use their new licenses to access social programs or register to vote, despite the bright pink markings. An extensive 2011 review of the state's 6.4 million registered voters by the N.C. Board of Elections found 12 instances were a non-citizen successfully cast a ballot.Jose Rico a 23-year-old Raleigh resident from Mexico who has already been issued DACA work permit, said he plans to be in line at the DMV on March 25 to get a license, even if it's pink. He will be extremely disappointed if state legislators pass a bill delaying or a denying his ability to do so.I don't know what's wrong with these people why they're so afraid of people like me said Rico who has lived in the U.S. since he was 13.It's so frustrating. I passed a federal background check done everything right by the book. I'm paying taxes. I mean, we're just kids trying to go to school.

Calvin Harris dating Adam Levine’s ex

Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend is dating Calvin Harris.
Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna, 26, - who dumped the Maroon 5 frontman after two years of dating last April - was spotting cosying up to the 29-year-old Scottish DJ on Valentine's Day (14.02.13) in Las Vegas.
A source told the New York Post's Page Six: 'The two were constantly laughing, kissing and holding each other throughout the night.'
Another friend close to the couple, who were first seen at the Sports Illustrated party at 1OAK nightclub, confirmed their romance began about two
months ago.
The insider told USMagazine.com: 'They were all over each other. He came to support her and was playing the role of doting boyfriend. . . They were adorable!'
The Russian beauty paid no attention when the DJ played her ex-boyfriend's hit 'One More Night' as she and the 'Feel So Close' hitmaker 'kissed throughout most of the song.'
Anne blindsided 'The Voice' mentor Adam, 33, when she released a breakup statement on April 2, 2012, without telling him.
Adam and Anne were also first seen together at a Sports Illustrated party in Las Vegas in early 2010.
Calvin was recently named the most successful UK songwriter of 2012 after the chart-topping producer scored a string of hits with Cheryl Cole's 'Call My Name', Rihanna's 'We Found Love' and his own songs 'Let's Go' featuring Ne-Yo, 'We'll Be Coming Back' with Example, and 'Sweet Nothing' featuring Florence Welch.

5 Steps to Attract a Woman

Having trouble finding the right girl and after you’ve found her, you can’t seem to get her to notice you? Let us help you lure her in with our 5 magical steps:

1- Try to open up emotional topics such as childhood memories, future motivations, or even her own passions. Story telling is very important into keeping a relationship alive.

2- Don’t hesitate and be her leader; women like men who know how to control the situations. So always take the first step and don’t wait till she reacts. Be very careful though because sometimes leadership can turn into controlling.

3- Never ignore her nonverbal signs; she will always give you hints every now and then and you have to pay good attention to those cues.

4- Having fun is key; it’s not a matter of being funny it’s about having fun… Try as much as you can to have fun together whether if it’s playing cards together, going to the gym together, or even watching TV. Having fun as a couple will shift your whole relationship around.

5- Don’t overdo it…. Complimenting is nice but when you overdo it, she may feel like you’re just trying to impress her which in fact will be taken against you. Compliment her you feel she has put in a lot of effort to look nice for you; think of it as a reward system to her hard work.

Now that you have those pointers, go and spend time with your girl; nothing makes a girl happier than a man who wants to spend all his free-time with her.

New photos, details emerge of Newtown mass shooter Adam Lanza

Never before seen pictures of Adam Lanza: Accused Newtown shooter Adam Lanza was spending more time alone in the months leading up to the mass shooting as his mother, Nancy Lanza, attempted to
encourage him to be independent despite his mental
disabilities, a Hartford Courant/Frontline investigation has found. In a new documentary called "Raising Adam Lanza," which airs Tuesday night on PBS, reporters from the Courant attempt to retrace the steps taken by Nancy and Adam in the years leading up to the shooting, complicating the picture that has occasionally appeared in the media of Nancy as a gun obsessed mother who was in denial about her son's mental challenges.

Adam is believed to have shot his mother four times in the head as she slept on Dec. 14 before shooting his way into Sandy Hook Elementary, where he attended school as a child, and killing 20 children and six women. He then took his own life.

Frontline and The Hartford Courant provided Yahoo News with several previously unpublished childhood and teenage photos of Adam Lanza they uncovered in their investigation.

The 20-year-old had been spending more time alone in his mother's $500,000 home in the affluent Connecticut suburb in the months leading up the shooting, Courant reporters Alaine Griffin and Josh Kovner found. Adam's social world gradually began shrinking after he left Newtown High School at the age of 16 to enroll in a nearby college, where he made As and Bs before withdrawing there, as well. Since 2010, Adam had not attended school.

Between 2010 and 2012, Nancy took Adam to nearby gun ranges to practice shooting. Nancy purchased four firearms, including the Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle Adam is believed to have used in the attack, during the same period. Her friends say Nancy used target practice as a way to bond with her withdrawn son. Police also uncovered thousands of dollars worth of violent video games in the Lanzas' home. Police believe Adam may have been inspired by the video games he played in the attack, since he changed the magazines of his weapons more frequently than was necessary, Frontline reported. Late Sunday, the Courant also reported that Adam may have felt that he was in direct competition with Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik, based on news articles about Breivik's 2011 crime they found in the Lanzas' home.

In the months before the attack, Nancy took frequent trips and left Adam at home unsupervised--including on one trip this past Thanksgiving--in an attempt to make him more independent.

Her friends say Nancy is the forgotten 27th victim that day.

"She's been described as some sort of gun nut or survivalist and this other misconception that she was a bad mother," her friend John Bergquist told Frontline. But he said her life "revolved around caring for Adam."

Adam was diagnosed at a young age with sensory integration disorder, a medically controversial diagnosis that meant Adam had trouble coping with bright lights, loud noises, and knowing when he was in pain. Later, when he was in middle school, Adam was also diagnosed with Asperger's, a condition related to autism that can make social interaction challenging. (Medical experts cautioned that autism disorders are not associated with violent behavior.)

A friend of Nancy’s remembered that when Adam was just six years old, he did not like to be touched. If children his age touched them, he recoiled or became upset. "He was angry with them," Marvin LaFontaine, Nancy's friend, told Frontline. Richard Novia, who co-founded the tech club Adam joined while he attended Newtown High School, told Frontline Adam would have "episodes" as a teen where he would completely withdraw from the world, sometimes sitting in a corner, motionless.

Nancy raised Adam and his older brother in their Newtown home on her own after she and her husband separated in 2001. In 2009, the couple officially divorced, and Adam abruptly cut off contact with his father in 2010 for reasons that are unclear.

Nancy's friends said she was planning on moving to either Washington or North Carolina to enroll Adam in college again, so that he could get a degree in history.

What Were They Thinking?!

Addams Family alum Christina Ricci turned heads upon arriving at Marc Jacobs Fashion Week unveiling in a sheer crop top, matching pencil skirt, and pointy white pumps. Despite our love for her freshly highlighted
locks and striped clutch, we can't abide blouses this revealing or shoes this revolting.
vFollowing in Ricci's footsteps was ex-Disney darling Miley Cyrus, who donned a skimpy Mickey Mouse sweater and candy cane-striped skirt to the star-studded presentation. Do you think the "Hannah Montana star was trying to send a message to her former employer or was she simply illustrating her immature sense of style?
How many stuffed animals had to meet their demise in order for reality star Rachel Zoe to sport the Cruella de Vil-esque coat of her dreams.
It appears as though Solange Knowles forgot to put on pants before heading to her big sister's HBO documentary debut in NYC on Tuesday. It also appears as though she needs lessons in decorum and red carpet posing.
Hey Paris. You aren't Kate Upton. Therefore, you can go ahead and put those away. And when you're done go ahead and burn that figure skating-inspired frock.
Helen Mirren debuted a pink hued 'do at the BAFTA Awards in London Sunday evening. When asked by reporters about the inspiration for her cotton candy-like coif, the 67-year-old icon said I saw it on America's Next Top Model, so I decided to have a go. Taking tips from Tyra's tired show? What was she thinking.
Very few women can pull off the silky jumpsuit. Needless to say, Mary J. Blige isn't one of them.
Rihanna wannabe Rita Ora was recently spotted out and about in London in a neon sweatsuit and black pumps. The scary thing is not even Rihanna would be caught dead in this disastrous of an ensemble.
